15th April 2019
This East London based homeless charity has an exciting opportunity for a Finance Trustee to join our team and bring their expertise to a vital organisation.

About Us

Caritas Anchor House is an award winning homelessness charity based in the London Borough of Newham, providing residential and life-skills support for single homeless adults. Our driving mission is to ensure that those who walk through our doors grow in confidence and move towards leading independent, self-fulfilling lives by providing education, guidance and personal rehabilitation. To find out more about the organisation, please do review our website: www.caritasanchorhouse.org.uk

What will you be doing?

As Finance Trustee you will use your skills and experience to help ensure that the organisation’s finances are responsibly managed/invested for the betterment of the organisation’s work and for the beneficiaries it serves.

In addition to providing your financial expertise you will also contribute to the overall governance of the charity, helping us to achieve our aims. Our Trustees have overall control of the charity and are responsible for making sure it is doing what it was set up to do. Trustees lead the charity, decide how it is run and make decisions which impact on the lives of our beneficiaries.

Training is provided for all new Trustees to ensure that they are informed and feel welcome.

The board meets quarterly, from 2 – 5 pm. An away day is held once a year. The Finance Committee (which candidate is expected to Chair) meets quarterly.

What difference will you make?

This is a truly exciting time to engage in future-proofing a charity changing the lives of people experiencing homelessness, as we face a number of changes within the organisation, such as the expansion of our facilities and an upcoming fundraising appeal.

What are we looking for?

  • Significant financial experience at a strategic level.
  • Financial skills including audit, financial governance and financial planning.
  • Qualified accountant is desirable.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.
  • Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives.

Individuals must be supportive of the Catholic ethos of Caritas Anchor House. We are keen to recruit practising Catholics, though this is not essential.
