Welcoming our new Director of Frontline Services

20th April 2018
This month we are pleased to be joined by Mary Whitfield, our newly appointed Director of Frontline Services.

Mary has a wealth of experience in the sector, and has spent the majority of her career working in senior positions in supported housing and housing associations. She brings with her an impressive skillset around strategy development, operational management and social impact delivery.

Mary has most recently been the Head of Social Impact at one of the largest social housing providers in the UK, where she was responsible for the development and leadership of research and innovation, community support, early tenancy support, and award-winning financial inclusion and resident involvement services. She worked with the team to deliver measureable social impact through their service offering.

Mary said, “I am delighted to join the Caritas Anchor House team. It is clear that their work has a real impact on the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness in Newham, and their person-centred approach makes their services both accessible and highly effective.”

As Director of Frontline Services at Caritas Anchor House, Mary will be a key member of our Senior Management Team and will be responsible for the provision of effective residential, community outreach and customer services functions. Her role will include the development and delivery of service strategies, plans and policies to meet the increasing demand on our services and the evolving needs of the community that accesses them.

As we provide a home and support to over 250 people experiencing homelessness and record almost 2,000 attendances at our community services each year, this will be no small task. Our service provision ensures that all residents are supported to develop in various areas of their lives, be it self-worth and confidence, employability or gaining key skills for life beyond Caritas Anchor House. Members of the community are invited to take part in our Your Space services, which provide safe spaces to nurture conversation and encourage participation through walking therapies and community activities. As such, our frontline staff have incredibly varied but equally important roles.

Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive at Caritas Anchor House, said, “With an appetite for research and innovation, Mary’s expertise will be vital in taking forward a thorough review of our services to ensure we are providing the most effective and impactful services. She will be a true asset in taking Caritas Anchor House into the future.”
