MAY DAY BBQ

Next month, we are partnering with NBC Universal to host a May Day BBQ for our residents!

Following the success of our Christmas Festive Event in December, we have received many requests for more activities days and opportunities to welcome members of the community into the open spaces of Caritas Anchor House.

As such, we are kicking off the beginning of the warmer weather in style this year with a May Day BBQ to be held on the 1st May 2019. This event will be sponsored by NBC Universal, who also will have a team of volunteers hosting a variety of activities for guests on the day.

Activities will include giant jenga, a raffle, table tennis, cookie decorating and bingo. We are also delighted to have a Nurture Academy coming back to provide free haircuts and styling for our residents. We are also really looking forward to AllOccasionPhotobooths attending our BBQ, they will be supplying a photo booth for this occasion to help us and our residents make memories.

Samantha Nakirya, our Education, Training and Employment Specialist, said “It’s really important to keep hosting community events like this BBQ to give our partners the chance to get stuck in, but more importantly to give our residents a day of activities to connect with their peers and the wider community.”

NBC Universal are part of Comcast who hold their Comcast Cares Day, one of the largest corporate commitments to volunteerism and service. This long-standing company tradition has engaged more than one million volunteers to help strengthen communities around the world where our customers and employees live and work.

David Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Diversity Officer, said “We are firm believers that corporations have a responsibility to give back to the communities where their employees and customers live and work and to partner with local governments, organizations, and nonprofits to make our communities stronger”

NBC Universal are also currently supporting our residents with one-to-one English language support where each volunteer is matched with a resident for them to work collaboratively over an extended period. This helps our resident improve their English language but also build their own networks and friendships.

We’re so grateful for the support of our many partners and supporters, including NBC Universal, Nurture Academy and AllOccasionPhotobooths and are pleased they are able to join our May Day BBQ.
