Lent 2017 – a time for giving back

28th March 2017
We’re midway through Lent, a season when people traditionally give up small indulgences, but we believe it should be about more than just that – it should be a time for charity, good works and giving back.

This year, why not consider supporting those without a home during Lent, and rather than ‘give up’, give to those in need? You could help change the lives of disadvantaged people who are forced to give up many of the things we take for granted, including a home.

Caritas Anchor House offers a home and support to the most vulnerable members of our community, 365 days a year. Our mission is to ensure that those who walk through our doors grow in confidence and move towards leading independent, self-fulfilling lives by providing one-to-one support, personal rehabilitation, education and training.

In 2016, we offered a home and support to 244 people, supported 36 into employment and 90 into independent living. In addition, 21 residents achieved a first stage move-on by making the transition to our new move-on flats.

“Before I came to live at Caritas Anchor House, I was lost. I had lost my self-esteem, my purpose and my dreams.”

Paula started sleeping rough when her rent was increased, and she could no longer afford to stay in her home. When she came to Caritas Anchor House five months ago, Paula felt isolated and had lost her self-esteem but with our help, she is starting to rebuild her life.

“Now, things are changing for me. I’ve made friends and I’m always greeted with a smile. In this space I find motivation, peace, harmony and I know that here I can realise my dreams.”

Your support, however great or small, has the ability to transform someone’s life, and is truly appreciated.
