Leave a legacy in your community

13th September 2016
This week is Remember a Charity in your Will Week, a cross-charity campaign to raise awareness of the importance of gifts in Wills to good causes across the UK.

Writing a will allows people to provide for their loved ones after they have gone. Alongside supporting family and friends, many people choose to remember a charity in their will to leave a legacy of hope.

Leaving a legacy to Caritas Anchor House, however great or small, will allow us to continue our vital work with homeless and disadvantaged people, many of whom do not have family or friends to support them.

Each year, we offer a home and help to over 210 homeless people and by providing education, guidance and personal rehabilitation, we give them the ability to transform their lives for the better. Many of the people we help have complex needs relating to mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse and offending - or a combination of these. With your support, we can continue helping those who need it most, like Kelly.

Kelly was made homeless after her landlord increased her rent by £100 per week, which she was unable to afford. At first, Kelly stayed with her children, but the house was too crowded for her to stay long term. Kelly found this time very unsettling and she experienced depression and became very withdrawn.

However, help came when Kelly was referred and accepted into Caritas Anchor House. Here, Kelly has received support from her Lifestyle Architect to address her needs and is now beginning to rebuild her confidence. She takes part in training opportunities, volunteers as a Front of House Ambassador and says she is now optimistic about the future.

“I would give Caritas Anchor House a ten out of ten – they have helped me a great deal. They are a great support network and provide a structure that many people here need”.

Leaving a gift in your will is actually very straight forward. All the information you need from us, to pass on to your solicitor, is our address and charity number. There are different ways to leave a legacy so you can tailor your giving to suit you and ensure your will works for the best of your loved ones.
