Caritas Anchor House recognised at Newham Business Awards

14th October 2016
Caritas Anchor House was named as the award winner in the Community Involvement category at the inaugural Newham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards on 13 October 2016.

The awards event was designed to celebrate the many and varied businesses and organisations in Newham. The Community Involvement award recognised organisations that had made a significant contribution to the local community over the last 12 months and had a track record of delivery.

Caritas Anchor House offers a home and support to over 210 homeless people each year. By providing education, guidance and personal rehabilitation, we ensure that those who walk through our doors grow in confidence and move towards leading independent self-fulfilling lives. In the year to September 2016, we supported 37 of our residents into employment and 84 into independent living.

Caritas Anchor House also acts as a community empowerment hub in Newham by providing training, employment and wellbeing services. Through Your Space and St Marks Community Centre – both run by Caritas Anchor House – we are able to help hundreds more people each year and record over 12,000 visit from Newham residents accessing these services and others.

Speaking on the night, Keith Fernett, Chief Executive of Caritas Anchor House, said “We are delighted to be named as the Community Involvement award winner and to be recognised by the Newham Business Community for our work and impact that we have in the community.”

The award is the latest in an impressive history of accolades for Caritas Anchor House. In 2015, Caritas Anchor House was runner up as a national ‘Social Champion’ at the Charity Times Award, and was highly commended as a ‘Charity Champion’ at the Community Champion Awards.
