Our News in Brief

Caritas Anchor House to host a milestone celebration

23rd June 2017
This July, Caritas Anchor House is holding an open day to celebrate the opening of our new facilities.

Caritas Anchor House has recently completed the construction of 25 move-on flats for previously homeless residents, as part of our £15.3million Home and Hope Appeal. The flats are designed to help residents achieve a sustainable transition back into independent living. Those living in the flats will have full responsibility for all aspects of their lives, but will still be able to access Caritas Anchor House support services, when needed.

The Home and Hope Appeal will also extend our educational facilities and when completed, Caritas Anchor House will have new office and training spaces, as well as assessment rooms, a music studio, medical room and multi-faith area. These expanded facilities will extend our ability to offer services to our residents and the local community, helping to combat poverty and skills deprivation in Newham.

The open day will commence with a blessing of the move-on flats by the Rt Rev Alan Williams - the Bishop of Brentwood and President of Caritas Anchor House - and will be followed by speeches from Monsignor John Armitage, our Chair of Trustees and Elinor Savage from the Greater London Authority. Guests will then be given an experiential tour of the new facilities, from the initial referral interview, through to one-to-one support, wellbeing services, education and move-on.

The event is an opportunity for Caritas Anchor House to thank all our supporters, funders, partners and staff who have helped to make our vision a reality. This project has been ten years in the making, and the support has helped to ensure that Caritas Anchor House is a lasting legacy for East London, helping people to rebuild their lives for many years to come.

The open day is taking place on Wednesday 12th July 2017, from 4pm – 6pm at Caritas Anchor House, 81 Barking Road, London, E16 4HB.

Space is limited, however if you would like to attend the event, please email
